Terminals and facilities at New York airport

There are nine terminals at JFK, and they all handle international flights among domestic. The terminals and parking lots at JFK are divided into four color-coded sections. Short-term airport parking is on hand but can be quite crowded, especially at peak times. Long-term airport parking is located four miles from the terminal area. Disabled parking facilities are also available. Two Expressways, the Van Wyck and the JFK, lead into the Central Terminal Area of the airport. Along these expressways you will find color-coded signs providing information for appropriate parking areas near the terminal. Car hire at JFK airport

To reach the airport from Manhattan by car, take the Van Wyck Expressway to the airport exit, then take the Belt Parkway East to exit 19/Van Wyck Expressway (678).

The color-coded shuttles that connect the terminals also provide services from each terminal to nearby car hire offices. You can hire a car directly from one of these offices close to JFK airport, or book car hire from New York JFK airport in advance.

Driving a hire car around New York City and Manhattan isn't advisable if you've never been there before. However, a hire car is perfect if you want to take it out of the hectic city and see some nearby attractions.
