Madrid Barajas Airport

Madrid Barajas Airport is a hub with many worldwide connections and the foremost European airport with links to Central and South America. More than 25 million passengers pass through the Madrid airport every year. It is a mere 9 miles away from the city center.

Terminals and facilities at Madrid airport

Madrid Barajas Airport has three terminals. Terminal 1, the largest, is for most international flights. Terminal 2 handles domestic Spanish flights and ‘Iberia European’ serves all major destinations in central and southern Europe. Terminal 3 is for Iberia domestic and regional shuttle services.

The main bank in Terminal 1 is Caja Madrid on the upper level. There are also numerous other ATMs located throughout all terminals. Madrid Barajas Airport has no lockers inside the terminals, but lockers are available at ground level outside the Terminal 1 Arrivals Lounge and between Terminals 1 and 2. There are also two pharmacies, a nursery and a medical center in Terminal 1. The airport is fully accessible to wheelchairs, and there are specially designated areas parking spots for the disabled.

There are plenty of shops located throughout Madrid Barajas. Duty-free shops are also available in the airside departures lounges.

Business travelers will find the airport has a business and conference center in Terminal 2. Individual airlines also provide their own business lounges. Six VIP lounges are located in the airport. Transportation and parking at Madrid airport

The Madrid Metro subway system links the airport with the city. There is no direct airport link to the main rail network. Passengers wishing to connect with the main train stations for travel outside Madrid should use the Metro. The airport Metro station is in Terminal 2 on the connecting corridor to Parking Area 2. The airport bus to the Plaza de Colon (Route 89) departs from the Arrivals level of each terminal.

Taxi stands are outside each Terminal Arrivals area.

Car hire at Madrid airport

By road, the airport is well signposted from major thoroughfares. There is access to the M-30 via A-2 or via N-11 (highway to Barcelona). The airport exit is 8 miles from the centre of Madrid. From the M-40 Highway there is access from exit 3, via A-10; and from exit 9, via N-100. Both go direct to airport terminals.
